Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to week 6 of term 2. Last week we enjoyed looking at the phases of the moon and comparing the different seasons. We also looked at why the seasons change and how the earth sits on an axis. Please remind your child to wear a jumper to school and bring a raincoat to ensure they stay warm and dry during the colder months and not get sick!
Thank you to all those parents who booked a parent teacher conference with us last week. It was great to discuss your child's progress. The next sessions that you can book to see us will be held in week 10.
This week, your child is learning the scientific process and as part of that we will may be giving them a research question and accompanying hypothesis. If you have the time we would appreciate it if you could help your child to research this question and bring their findings to school. These questions are what they themselves have formulated. We will be doing some research at school but any answers they may find on the internet will be a great help. We will be discussing the answers to these questions the following Friday.
The children will also be learning about beat and rhythm and will be making their own percussion pattern to a Maori Myth for Music. Ball skills will be covered for P.E this week.
News sharing in Room 17 - Generally we have time on a Friday for news sharing. It is fantastic to see students bringing in items to share with us throughout the week. However we can not always fit this in. We encourage them to show their friends at morning tea or lunch time and if there is spare time at the end of the day before the bell rings we will select a couple of children to share what they have brought in.
Just a reminder the bell goes in the morning at 8.55am. This is a time that we expect all students to have already said goodbye to their parents and be sitting down in their chair reading a book. It can be distracting in the morning for the class when parents leave after this time or when your child is brought into school after this time so we really encourage you to get your child to school before this time and be ready to go in their seats by 8.55am!
This week

Katherine Watson
